About Horseshoe Bend, Texas

Horseshoe Bend is a community of 949 people in southern Parker County, about 12 miles south of Weatherford. Its homes fill a tight loop of the Brazos River shaped like a horseshoe, and the Census Bureau first counted it as a place of its own in 2010. Its earlier history is tied to Tin Top, a neighboring community that Horse Shoe Bend joined in 1949.

  • A gin with a tin roofTin Top took its name from a cotton gin built there in 1909. The gin had a galvanized-metal roof that people could see from miles away. Later the community went quiet, with only a few families scattered across the area, until 1949.
  • Four places as one in 1949In 1949 the scattered residents of Horse Shoe Bend, Balch, Hightower and Tin Top joined together under the Tin Top name. They built a community center for the combined community and brought their churches back.
