This restored linen postcard presents the Hotel Avon in Easton, Maryland, with its inviting boast, "Where Gracious Plenty Rules the Board." Easton is the seat of Talbot County, a Chesapeake Bay community founded in the colonial era on Maryland's Eastern Shore, where hospitality and good fare have long been part of local life.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, American travelers carried home "linen" postcards , named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their colors a soft, painterly glow. Many of the finest were produced by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL.
