About Hough, Oklahoma
Hough is a small rural community in Texas County, Oklahoma, north-northwest of Guymon. It was planned as a railroad town and placed on purpose along the route of the Beaver, Meade and Englewood Railroad, which laid its line through this part of the county in 1929 and 1930.
- Platted on July 20, 1928The Hough townsite was officially platted on July 20, 1928, just ahead of the railroad. When the tracks came through, the new town was already laid out and waiting beside them.
- A wood-frame elevator from 1929Riffe and Gilmore Co. built Hough's wood-frame grain elevator beside the tracks in 1929. It served the farms around Hough until the trains stopped running in the late 1970s, and its 1983 National Register nomination calls it vital to the farming, trade and daily life of the community. The Hough Woodframe Elevator still stands and is on the National Register.
- 20 people in 2020The 2020 census counted 20 people in Hough. The community belongs to the Straight Public School district, an elementary school district.
