About Howe, Oklahoma

Howe began as a Choctaw Nation town called Klondike. Crews of the Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Gulf line built through town in 1895 and 1896. Afterward the town's people chose a new name honoring Dr. Herbert M. Howe, a director of the railroad. Its post office opened in 1898, while the area was still Indian Territory.

In 1961 an F4 tornado struck Howe and the nearby village of Reichert. The storm killed sixteen people, thirteen of them in town, and wrecked at least fifty homes. The town later grew again, reaching 802 residents by 2010.
