About Huson, Montana
Huson is a community of 256 people in Missoula County, Montana. The Clark Fork River flows along its southern edge, and the town lies in that river's valley. Huson began around 1894 as a stop on the Northern Pacific Railroad line through the valley.
The railroad station came first, and a post office followed a few years later. Today the community is part of Frenchtown Public Schools, a K-12 district that covers all of Huson.
- Named for a railroad manThe station took its name from H. S. Huson, an engineer who helped build the Northern Pacific Railroad. His name stayed with the place long after the railroad crews moved on.
- Glaude, then HusonWhen the post office opened in about 1897, it went by the name Glaude. Around a year later the name was changed to Huson, so the mail and the railroad station used the same name.
- 256 people in 2020The census counted 210 people in Huson in 2010. By 2020 the count had grown to 256.
