About Ironville, Pennsylvania

Ironville is a community of 60 people in the southeastern corner of Snyder Township, in northern Blair County. It sits inside a bend of the Little Juniata River, on the north and east bank, a short way past the water gap the river has cut between Brush Mountain and Bald Eagle Mountain.

The village began as a home for ironworkers. Its streets were laid out on a farm that belonged to Thomas and Wesley Johnson, so the men who worked at the nearby forges could live close to their jobs. The Census Bureau first listed Ironville as a census-designated place shortly before the 2020 count.

  • A village for forge workersThe 1883 History of Huntingdon and Blair Counties records that Ironville was planned as housing for the workmen at the forges. The land had been the Johnson farm, and it later passed into the hands of Thomas Weston.
  • Across from Tyrone ForgeTyrone Forge lies just across the Little Juniata to the west. Tyrone is 1.5 miles to the northwest and Birmingham the same distance to the southeast, and the Pittsburgh Line of the Norfolk Southern Railway runs along Ironville's east side.
