About Johnston, Iowa
Johnston is a Polk County city whose beginnings trace to Johnston Station, established in 1905 along the Des Moines & Central Iowa Railway. The city incorporated in 1969, and the 2020 census recorded 24,064 residents. Its landscape reaches the Des Moines River and includes part of Saylorville Reservoir.

- Civic MilestoneResidents approved incorporation on June 23, 1969, and the first mayor and council took office that September.
