Elkton, MD: Keystone Motel, U. S. Route 40 -- 12 miles south of Delaware Memorial Bridge
Beautifully designed. Printed on archival paper for modern walls.
This vintage linen postcard captures the Keystone Motel along U.S. Route 40, twelve miles south of the Delaware Memorial Bridge in Elkton, Maryland. Once known as the "Elopement Capital" of the East, Elkton drew couples from all over the region in the early twentieth century thanks to Maryland's lenient marriage laws, and Route 40 carried a steady stream of travelers right through the heart of Cecil County.
Postcards like this one belong to the golden age of American "linen" cards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their colors such a warm, saturated glow. This edition comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection of Boston, and it has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back the brightness and detail of the original.
A charming piece of Elkton history for any wall, printed on museum-quality archival paper and available in three unframed sizes. Fast, free U.S. shipping. Printed in the USA.
