About Kimberton, Pennsylvania
In 1817, Emmor Kimber opened the French Creek Boarding School for Girls. A village grew up around it, and the post office there was named Kimberton. Kimber and his daughters ran the school by the Golden Rule, and it drew students from other states and the West Indies. It closed about 1850, when Kimber died.
Clemens Rentgen and his family came from Germany in 1793. They built iron and steel works near Kimberton. During the War of 1812, they made ship iron for the government. In 1881 the ruins of their old slit mill could still be seen on French Creek.
