About Kingfield, Maine

Salomon Stanley was among the first settlers of Kingfield. His twin sons, Francis Edgar and Freelan Oscar, grew up to make the Stanley Steamer car from 1902 to 1924. They also made Stanley Dry Plate, which Eastman Kodak bought in 1903. Their sister Chansonetta became a noted photographer of rural life.

John W. Dutton and Nathaniel Kimball first visited in 1805 and brought their families a year later. In 1807 William King bought the township. King later became the first governor of Maine.
