About Laurel, Iowa
From the 1878 History of Marshall County, Iowa: "The M. E. Church of Laurel, Jefferson Township, was organized in June, 1864, by the Rev. S. Dunton, and formed a part of what was then known as the Timber Creek Mission, embracing the following preaching places: Hazel Green, Illinois Grove, Story Grove, Bear Grove, Altic's School House and Jefferson School House."
