About Levant, Kansas
Levant is a community of 68 people in Thomas County, about 7.5 miles west of Colby. Steven Waters arrived in the area in 1885 and claimed a homestead here. Two years later the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railroad built its tracks across this stretch of prairie, and in 1888 Waters marked out the town site that became Levant.
- The railroad came firstThe Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railroad reached the area in 1887. Steven Waters, who had been farming his homestead for two years, staked out the town site the following year.
- A post office since 1888Levant got its post office in 1888, the same year Waters laid out the town. It still serves the community under ZIP Code 67743.
- Home of the Levant TigersLevant once had its own high school, whose teams were the Tigers. The school closed when Kansas districts were unified, and Levant's students now attend schools in Colby USD 315.
