This vintage linen postcard captures a striking line-up of anti-aircraft guns at the Ordnance Training Center in Aberdeen, Maryland, a scene of military readiness from roughly 1930 to 1945. The image reflects the work of Aberdeen Proving Ground, the U.S. Army installation established in Harford County in 1917 that became a leading center for testing ordnance and training soldiers through both World Wars.
Postcards like this one belong to the golden age of American "linen" cards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave the prints their warm, painterly color. This edition comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection, originally published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original vibrancy.
