About Little City, Oklahoma
Little City is a community of 136 people in northeastern Marshall County, on State Highway 199 about 9 miles east of Madill, the county seat. It grew up around the oil business: in 1940 the Pure Oil Company set up a camp for its workers here, and the town beside it first carried the company's name as Pure City.
- Pure Oil's 1940 campThe Pure Oil Company built its oil camp here in 1940. At its largest, the camp held forty-three houses and a bunkhouse with thirty-five beds.
- A gas plant next doorWarren Petroleum ran a gas plant near the camp. The plant and the Pure Oil camp together kept the town going, and the place first known as Pure City came to be called Little City.
- Counted first in 2020The Census Bureau first listed Little City as a census-designated place in 2020, when it counted 136 people. The community has never been incorporated, and it lies about 20 miles northwest of Durant.
