About London, Ohio
London is a city of 10,279 people and the county seat of Madison County, about 25 miles southwest of Columbus. Patrick McLene founded the town in 1811 because the county needed a seat for its government, and the courts came quickly. On November 18, 1811, the Court of Common Pleas held a session in London, which the 1883 History of Madison County called the newly laid out county seat. London has served as the county seat ever since, and the Madison County Courthouse joined the National Register in 1973.
- The first church, built in 1820Methodists organized a congregation not long after London was founded. In 1820 they put up a small log building, the first church in town. That congregation is now First United Methodist Church, which joined the National Register in 1996. In the early 1900s the church ran an orphanage and added a place to store human milk so it could feed the children in its care.
- On screen for the 2012 OlympicsNike filmed in London for a commercial promoting the 2012 Summer Olympics. The town's water tower, its fire department and London High School all appeared in the ad.
