About Louise, Texas
Louise began in 1881 and 1882 as a station on a new railroad. Silver mine co-owner John William Mackay built the line. He named the station for his wife, Louise Hungerford Mackay. Italian builders recruited by Count Joseph Telfener earned the railroad the nickname Macaroni Line.
H. P. Stockton stopped in Louise for dinner while traveling by train. The train left without him, so he stayed the night. He decided to make Louise his home. In 1903 he bought the town's Rice Hotel, along with its bank and the Louise Trading Company.
