About Lyons Switch, Oklahoma
The Cherokee strawberry industry in the hills around Stilwell grew from the people of Lyons Switch. They built a log community house by hand, and early in 1938 they formed a strawberry cooperative that paid its debt in full. Women and children carried stones and clay from the hillside for a lime kiln, and the big boys tended its fire for three days and nights.
