This restored linen postcard captures the M. E. Church in Centerville, Maryland , a quiet, dignified house of worship preserved in a scene from the 1930s or early 1940s. The "M. E." in the caption stands for Methodist Episcopal, one of the largest and most widespread American denominations of the era, with congregations dotting countless small towns across Frederick County and the wider state.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age , printed on textured, fabric-like card stock that gave their colors a soft, saturated glow. This particular card was issued by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing the original scene back to life.
