Marble Cliff ranks among the earliest suburbs of Columbus. It was settled in 1890 and incorporated in 1901. The name came from the Marble Cliff Quarry Company. For a short time the village was called Arlington. That name led its new northern neighbor, incorporated in 1918, to call itself Upper Arlington.
- How neighbors formedAt first the village of Marble Cliff covered the land between the Scioto and Olentangy rivers. In 1902 it gave up all land but its present area. The land it let go became Grandview Heights in 1906.
