This restored linen postcard captures a lively stretch of Ocean City, Maryland, showing the Mayflower and Stephen Decatur-McCabe Apartments alongside the Commander Hotel , seaside lodgings that welcomed visitors drawn to the wide Atlantic beaches. Ocean City sits on a barrier island along Maryland's Eastern Shore in Worcester County, and by the early twentieth century it had grown into one of the state's most beloved summer resort towns.
Postcards like this one date to the golden age of American "linen" cards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper stock that gave them their soft, saturated look. This image comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose vast output is preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
