This restored linen postcard captures the Mayflower Restaurant in Aberdeen, Maryland, a roadside stop along the storied U.S. Route 40 as it appeared circa 1930–1945. Long before interstate highways, Route 40 served as one of America's great east–west corridors, and Aberdeen , a town in Harford County , welcomed travelers passing through on this busy national artery.
From the 1930s into the 1940s, "linen" postcards were prized for their soft, textured finish and warm, saturated colors that gave everyday scenes a bright, inviting glow. This card was originally issued by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work is preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing the original charm back to life.
