About Miamitown, Ohio
Arthur Henry founded Miamitown in 1816. The site was an apple orchard with just one house when its lots were surveyed and sold. Henry built the flour mill and a brick house next to it. He lived in that house and kept a store there.
Miamitown grew up where the Cincinnati and Harrison turnpike crossed the Great Miami River. In 1819 the Ohio Gazetteer predicted it would become a place of considerable business. By 1841 a macadam turnpike linked it to Cincinnati. A bridge of two arches, each 160 feet long, carried the road over the river. The town also enjoyed daily mail.
