From the Federal Writers' Project: "MONROE, 30 m. (922 alt., 936 pop.), was laid out by Adam Tool and recorded under the name of Tool's Point in 1851, but a year later its name was changed to Monroe, for President Monroe; it is known for its beautiful cemeteries."
