About Moore, Pennsylvania

Moore is a township of 9,322 people in Northampton County, in the Lehigh Valley. In 1765 a wide stretch of land north of Bethlehem, lying between Easton and what is now Allentown, was incorporated as the township of Moore. It took its name from John Moore, who served in the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly from 1761 to 1762.

The township's northern boundary follows the Blue Mountain, a ridge more than 150 miles long, and most of Moore spreads across the foothills to its south. The borough of Chapman sits entirely inside the township, which surrounds it on every side.

  • 106 men in the AssociationWhen the military Association was raised, 106 men from Moore joined its ranks. They chose Adam Bruckhauser as their captain and Timothy Reed as their lieutenant.
  • Where three creeks beginThe Catasauqua, Monocacy and Hokendauqua creeks all start in Moore Township and run to the Lehigh River. Bushkill Creek drains the south and east of the township toward the Delaware River, so all of Moore's water ends up in the Delaware.
