About Moshannon, Pennsylvania
Gilliland and Vandyke laid out Moshannon in 1849. George Breon built the first house. A Native American path crossed the village near its center. Gilliland said the trees around one spot on the path bore marks left by Native Americans. They showed it had been a stopping place.
Edward Ide was the first postmaster at Moshannon. The office moved there from Daniel Yeager's, where it had been called Snow Shoe. J. T. Lucas started a steam grist mill in the village in December 1881. Moshannon once had a match-stick factory, but it had closed by 1883.
