This restored linen postcard captures Motel Aberdeen, a roadside lodging set one mile south of Aberdeen, Maryland along the storied U.S. Route 40. As one of the nation's earliest east–west highways, Route 40 carried generations of travelers across the country, and motels like this one welcomed weary motorists passing through Harford County in the golden age of the open road.
From roughly the 1930s into the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached the height of their popularity, prized for their textured paper stock and vivid, saturated colors. This card was issued by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose body of work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing its original warmth back to life.
