About Mount Chase, Maine

The town takes its name from Mount Chase, its prominent peak. Settlers came to stay in 1838. It was organized as Mount Chase Plantation in 1862 and became a town two years later. A 50-mile stage line later tied it to the railroad at Mattawamkeag.
