About Moyers, Oklahoma

The earliest record of the town's name dates to 1904. That year an Antlers newspaper called the settlement Moyer's Spur. The name honored Roy Abraham Moyer, a local settler. By 1910 people had shortened it to Moyers, the name it still carries.

An asphalt mine opened at Jumbo, in the Kiamichi Mountains northwest of Moyers. Workers built a tram railroad to carry the asphalt to the Moyers depot. The rails were later pulled up. The raised track bed still curves around Parker Mountain today.

  • Pipeline station that brought workIn 1907 the Gulf Pipe Line Company built a pumping station near Moyers. The company was laying a natural gas pipeline from the Texas coast. The station kept the pipeline working for many miles in both directions.
