In December 1936, Mrs. Atkinson and her baby are photographed in Shannon City, Ringgold County, Iowa. Mrs. Atkinson rented eighty acres of land to support her family of nine. She walked fifteen miles to seek assistance from the relief office, illustrating the hardships rural families faced during the Great Depression. This image is part of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information collection.
