This linen postcard captures the New Susquehanna River Bridge, the span connecting Havre de Grace and Perryville across the broad mouth of the Susquehanna River in Harford County, Maryland. Set where the river meets the upper Chesapeake Bay, Havre de Grace was once considered as a possible site for the nation's capital, a reminder of how strategically this waterside town has always sat along the busy corridor between Philadelphia and Baltimore.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American travelers mailed home millions of "linen" postcards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper stock that gave their colors a soft, saturated glow. This view comes from the catalog of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the brightness and detail of the original.
A charming piece of Havre De Grace history for any wall, printed on museum-quality archival paper and available in three unframed sizes. Fast, free U.S. shipping. Printed in the USA.
