This restored linen postcard captures a glowing night view from Division Hill at Fort George G. Meade in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Established during World War I and named for Union General George G. Meade, who commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg, the post grew into one of the busiest Army installations in the country , a fitting subject for a card meant to share the scale and energy of military life.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, printed on textured card stock that gave images their soft, painterly glow. This edition comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose output survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
