About Oakboro, North Carolina
From the North Carolina Gazetteer: "Oakboro town in SW Stanly County. Inc. 1915. Known as Furr City until about 1905. Post office est. 1914 with the coming of the railroad and when Big Lick post office was closed."
From the Oakboro Land Use Plan 1978: "Initial growth started in 1913 when the building of a railroad enticed small industries and trading center enterprises to locate there. Oakboro quickly became a shipping point for farm products such as lumber, cotton, chickens, eggs, etc."
