About Oilton, Texas
Oilton was once called Torrecillas, meaning little towers. The name came from small stone towers of unknown origin that stood on a little hill at the edge of town. The town took its new name when a small oil field was developed in 1922. The boom was short, leaving weatherbeaten houses on sandy streets.
