About Ojo Encino, New Mexico
Ojo Encino is a community of 222 people in McKinley County, on the Navajo Nation, and its Navajo name is Chéchʼiizh Biiʼ Tó. In June 1957 the community won certification as a chapter of the Navajo Nation, and the Ojo Encino Chapter still keeps its story today.
The community stands on the west side of the Encino Wash valley, 29 miles by road west of Cuba. Encino Wash runs southeast into Torreon Wash and Arroyo Chico, so its water eventually reaches the Rio Puerco and then the Rio Grande.

- A day school of 173 studentsThe Bureau of Indian Education runs the Ojo Encino Day School, which teaches children from kindergarten through eighth grade. In 2023 the school had 173 students and 25 employees. The public district, Gallup-McKinley County Schools, zones the community to Crownpoint Elementary and Crownpoint Middle School in Crownpoint and to Tseʼ Yiʼ Gai High School.
