About the City of Omro, Wisconsin
Omro is a Winnebago County city along the Fox River, about 10 miles west of Oshkosh. The 2020 census recorded 3,652 residents.
- An 1853 PortraitAn 1853 account recorded 600 residents, 100 dwellings, five stores, two hotels, three mills, four religious denominations, and preparations for glass manufacturing.
- Village IndustryBy 1856, the village had nine stores, three sawmills, a planing mill, a flour mill, and mechanics' shops.
- Railroad EraBy 1880, Omro had a railroad stop, county fairgrounds, mills, glass and carriage factories, machine works, and more than 2,000 residents.
- Historic RenewalA revitalization effort begun in 1986 included a historical walking tour, Scott Park pavilion work, and designation of a historic downtown district.
