This vintage linen postcard captures the Ordnance Training Center at Aberdeen, Maryland, a glimpse of the military life that shaped this corner of Harford County. Aberdeen sits beside the U.S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground, established in 1917 along the Chesapeake Bay, where ordnance and weapons have long been tested and where generations of soldiers received their training.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, American postcards entered their celebrated "linen" era, printed on textured card stock that gave everyday scenes their soft, painterly glow. This card was published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, one of the most prolific names of the period and the source of the renowned Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL.
