About Park Layne, Ohio

Park Layne is a community of 4,248 people in Bethel Township, Clark County, set on the township's western edge where it meets Miami County. The Census Bureau first counted it as a place of its own in 1980, and it belongs to the Springfield metropolitan area. State Route 235 runs through the middle of it, about 3.5 miles south of New Carlisle, and downtown Dayton lies 14 miles to the southwest.

  • A drive-in for 600 carsChakeres Theatres opened the Park Layne 69 Drive-In Theatre on June 29, 1962, with space for 600 cars. In an unusual design, the projectionist worked from a room built on the roof of the concession stand. On August 21, 1965, a popcorn popper caught fire and badly damaged that stand. The drive-in kept going for decades after the fire and played its last movie in August 2007.
  • A tornado in 2017Several businesses in Park Layne were damaged when a tornado rated EF1 struck the community on May 24, 2017.
  • Tecumseh schools since 1989Park Layne Elementary School stands in the northwest corner of the community. Its district was called New Carlisle-Bethel Local until the fall of 1989, when it took the name Tecumseh Local School District.
