About Pasadena Hills, Florida

Pasadena Hills is an unincorporated community in Pasco County, and the 2020 census counted 11,120 people here. The community was first planned in 1925, but developers had come to the hills around Lake Pasadena more than thirty years earlier. A group of New England people of modest means put money into the area, and their leaders incorporated the Pasadena Land and Improvement Company to build it up.

  • A winter hotel, 1894 to 1901By 1894 the company's three-story hotel stood finished on the north edge of Lake Pasadena, a lake some nine miles around, with orange groves on every side. It held 125 guests and did fair business as a winter resort for several seasons. The Lake View Highlands Hotel burned on the night of December 30, 1901.
  • A free tower on LeHeup HillFred T. Himmelwright started a gas station on the crest of LeHeup Hill in 1926. The road already gave a good view of Lake Pasadena, but he felt it sat too low to show off the hills, so he built a tall tower onto his station with a glassed-in room for cool or stormy days. From it visitors could see the whole countryside, and anyone could climb it for free.
