About Perrin, Texas

Perrin is a community of 346 people in southeastern Jack County, where US Highway 281 crosses FM 2210. Louis Perrin founded the town in 1870 and named it after his father, Levi W. Perrin. The open prairie of the Keechi Valley spreads out on every side, with no trees but a few mesquites.

US 281 carries traffic through town, running 14 miles north to Jacksboro and 16 miles south to Mineral Wells. Fort Worth lies 53 miles away to the southeast, so Perrin sits within reach of the city but still out on the ranch country prairie.

  • Once bigger than JacksboroEarly in the twentieth century, Perrin had more people than Jacksboro and kept two banks in business. Its size made it a serious choice for county seat, but the county chose Jacksboro instead, because Perrin lay too far from the middle of Jack County.
  • A post office in 1931Perrin received its own post office in 1931. The post office still serves the town today under ZIP code 76486.
  • Perrin-Whitt schoolsThe Perrin-Whitt Consolidated Independent School District teaches the children of Perrin, along with students from the neighboring community of Whitt.
