This vintage postcard captures the Petit Norman Silver Restaurant at 8250 Georgia Avenue, in the heart of Silver Spring, Maryland. A dining spot from a bygone era, it stood along one of the area's main thoroughfares in Montgomery County. Silver Spring takes its name from a mica-flecked spring discovered in 1840 by Francis Preston Blair, whose family estate gave the community its enduring name.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured finish and vivid, saturated colors. This example comes from the catalog of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work is preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing its original warmth back to life.
