About Pinetops, North Carolina

From the North Carolina Gazetteer: "Inc. 1903. Named by Henry Clark Bridgers (1876-1951), founder of the East Carolina Railway, which was completed between Tarboro and Hookerton in 1900. On the first run of the new railroad, Bridgers noticed that he could see only the tops of pine trees from the train there."
