About Pineville, Missouri
Pineville is a city and the county seat of McDonald County, with 802 residents recorded in the 2020 census.
- County Seat Since 1857After a dispute with Rutledge that produced competing officials and courts, Pineville became the permanent county seat in 1857.
- The Sugar CreeksBig Sugar Creek and Little Sugar Creek converge at Pineville to create the Elk River, once also known as the Cowskin.
- Surveyed in 1847Pineville was surveyed for Samuel Burke in 1847 and attained city status in 1873.
- Two Naming TraditionsAccounts preserved by the State Historical Society of Missouri connect Pineville's name either to a nearby pine forest or to Pineville in Bell County, Kentucky.
