About Plymouth, Vermont

Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president, spent his boyhood at the family homestead in Plymouth Notch, a village in the town. He was visiting there when President Warren G. Harding died. His father swore him in as president in the family parlor. Coolidge is buried in the village cemetery.

The president's father, John Coolidge, ran the old store in town, which held the post office in the 1920s. His wife Carrie served as postmaster from 1903 to 1917. The president's father also founded Plymouth Cheese, which is still in business today.
