This linen postcard captures the Port Deposit Quarries Co. in Port Deposit, Maryland, a Cecil County town set along the eastern bank of the Susquehanna River. Port Deposit was long known for the durable granite drawn from its surrounding hills , a stone so prized that Port Deposit granite was shipped out for use in buildings and fortifications well beyond Maryland's borders.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, printed on textured card stock that gave them a soft, painterly glow. This edition comes from the Tichnor Brothers Collection, published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL.
