About Quinlan, Oklahoma
Quinlan is an unincorporated community of 28 people in Woodward County, Oklahoma, about twenty miles east of Woodward. The Quinlan brothers were cattle ranchers who ran their herds on the range north of Mooreland, both before the Cherokee Outlet opened to settlers in 1893 and in the years after. In 1901 the brothers put up a loading chute for their cattle beside a switch of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, and the stop that grew up there took their family name.
- A farm town in wheat countryQuinlan started out as a small farming community surrounded by the wheat fields of northwest Oklahoma. The town lies 1.5 miles up the road from U.S. Highway 412, which passes to its south.
- On the map by 1911The town grew along the old Santa Fe railroad line, 9 miles east of Mooreland. It was already established when Rand McNally printed its 1911 map of Woodward County, and Quinlan appears on that map.
- The county's highest groundThe Ragged Hills rise to the west of town, and they hold the highest point anywhere in Woodward County.
