About Ravanna, Missouri

William R. McKinley and Addison Sparks laid out Ravanna in 1857. The town had no railroad but reached its peak after the Civil War. It rivaled Princeton as one of the best business towns in the area. That lasted until the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad was built in Putnam and Sullivan counties.

In November 1886, T. H. Graves started a weekly paper called the Ravanna Review. The next May he moved it to Lucerne and renamed it the Lucerne Bee. It was the only newspaper ever published in Ravanna.
