Elkton, MD: Recreation Hall, Elkton, MD, erected 1943
Beautifully designed. Printed on archival paper for modern walls.
This restored linen postcard captures Recreation Hall in Elkton, Maryland, a community gathering place noted on the original caption as erected in 1943. Elkton serves as the seat of Cecil County, in the northeastern corner of the state near the head of Chesapeake Bay, and during the 1930s and 1940s the town drew nationwide attention as a popular destination for quick marriages thanks to Maryland's lenient waiting-period laws.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, printed on textured card stock that gave their inks a soft, painterly glow. This image comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose output is preserved today in the well-known Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the warmth and clarity of the original.
A charming piece of Elkton history for any wall, printed on museum-quality archival paper and available in three unframed sizes. Fast, free U.S. shipping. Printed in the USA.
