This restored vintage postcard captures the Regiment of Midshipmen standing at dress parade at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland , rows of crisp uniforms arrayed in the disciplined precision the academy is known for. Founded in 1845, the Naval Academy has trained officers for the U.S. Navy along the banks of the Severn River for generations, and the time-honored parade remains one of its proudest traditions.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, printed on textured card stock that gave their inks a soft, painterly glow. This example comes from the Tichnor Brothers Collection, published by the noted Boston firm. KNOWOL has carefully restored and color-revived this edition, bringing back the warmth and detail of the original scene.
