This vintage postcard captures a regimental dress parade by the Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, ranks of uniformed students arrayed in precise formation. Founded in 1845, the Academy has trained officers for the United States Navy for generations, and Annapolis itself , once the capital of the United States in the 1780s , remains the seat of Anne Arundel County and the state of Maryland.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured paper and vivid, saturated color. This edition comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection, published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL.
