About Rocky Point, Oklahoma

Rocky Point is an unincorporated community of 946 people in Wagoner County, in the lake country of northeastern Oklahoma. It sits on Flat Rock Bay at the upper end of Fort Gibson Lake, at the spot where Flat Rock Creek flows into the lake's main channel.

The ground here rises in steep rocky bluffs on the east side of the park, while thick timber covers the west side. Rocky Point is one of several public use areas around the lake that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages.

  • Fort Gibson Lake, 1942The lake at Rocky Point's door is man-made. In 1942 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held back the Grand River, also called the Neosho, and the new reservoir brought tourists and outdoor recreation to the country around it.
  • A year-round campgroundThe Corps runs Rocky Point Campground here all year. It has 62 campsites, 59 of them with electric hookups and three without. Day visitors can use a group shelter and a beach for swimming, and boaters have three ramps for launching plus a courtesy dock.
  • Bass, crappie and catfishFort Gibson Lake draws boaters, swimmers and anglers. The fish they're after include crappie, catfish, and both black and white bass. Hunters can use thousands of acres of shoreline land owned by the public when the season is open, and Sequoyah State Park and Sequoyah Bay State Park sit on the same water.
